Scholarships/Bursaries/Prizes

Filed under: Uncategorized — annegpeters @ 1:10 pm

The scholarship pages here are only a rough guide. Deadlines are based on last year’s dates and change somewhat from year to year. I will update the dates and the information as this year’s applications arrive in Student Services. To ensure accurate and up-to-date information, you are asked to refer to the scholarship bulletin board at the top of the stairs by Student Services or the memos posted in your homeroom, phone me at the school, e-mail me at agpeters@edu.pe.ca, contact the university or college, or visit the website.

Many universities, colleges, businesses, and organizations offer scholarships, bursaries and awards that are not mailed to the school, but you may seek them out through advertisements, word of mouth, or the internet. The responsibility lies with you, the student, to investigate any and all avenues where these scholarships, bursaries and awards may be offered. You may want to check out the following web sites: www.scholarshipscanada.com and www.studentawards.com .

Ask your parents/guardians if there are any scholarships/bursaries available through their places of work or from organizations to which they belong. If you are working, check with your employer. Check with the organizations to which you belong. Check out the scholarship section on the web sites of schools to which you are applying.

Note: Often students who have an average of 80% or higher in Grade 11 and have maintained this average in the first semester of Grade 12 are automatically considered for scholarship at most universities that they make application to. In addition, some universities have separate applications for entrance scholarships.

Prize Information Sheet:
Each graduate will be asked to complete this by the deadline of May 15. Information from this sheet will be used by the staff selection committee to award the many prizes that we have for graduation. For example, the Fortune Community Centre, Alberta Centennial, Kaylee Jackson Memorial, Catherine and Melvin McQuaid Memorial, Paula Brown Memorial, Souris Lions Club, Tyler MacPhee Memorial, Anne MacDonald Memorial, Kay and Joe MacIsaac, Ocean Choice, Black Pond Farms, various Parishes, Confederation Bridge, and Malone Construction Ltd.

Souris Credit Union Bursaries – Applications can be picked up at the Credit Union in May. These are selected by the staff of Souris Credit Union.

Check out the two new pages that have been added here: “Post-Secondary Education Costs” and “Taking a Year Off”.
