Scholarship Applications – Mrs. Peters

#3 – UPEI Admissions and Scholarships

September 17, 2008
I have just received word from UPEI on the scholarship process.  Although things were done differently last year, they are going back to the process which was in place for several years prior to last year.  This process is now similar to what happens in most other Atlantic universities.  I have copied below the information that I have received.

AdmissionsEligibility for the Faculty of Arts, Science and the School of Business is determined by each program’s admission requirements.
Prior to the first term Grade 12 transcript, students’ grade 11 marks in the five required courses will be used as performance indicators.

Students who apply prior to March 1st and who have an average of 85%+ in the five courses used for admission will qualify for an Inspiring Excellence Award of $1000.00 – contingent upon the successful completion of the required courses with a cumulative average of 85%+.

The application deadline for the UPEI School of Nursing is February 15th 2009. This is a competitive entrance program and to be eligible for consideration applicants must have a minimum cumulative average of 70% in the five admissions courses and a minimum of 65% in each of the five courses. Students are ranked on the four core course grades – English, Math, Chemistry, and Biology, in addition to the supplementary application requirements.

Scholarship/Awards

Applications from high school students received by MARCH 1st 2009 will be eligible for consideration of UPEI Entrance Scholarships and Awards. The UPEI scholarships/awards are based solely on academic merit determined by the cumulative average of the five academic courses used for admission into the university.

Students are permitted to stack scholarships/awards from UPEI up to the value of a full year’s tuition.

Each Island high school will be awarded a minimum of one full tuition scholarship, exclusive of scholarships designated by a donor. This scholarship will be awarded to the student with the highest admission average to UPEI.
